My family member has been a resident here since Easter. He has very complex neurological issues which change by the hour sometimes. I am always extremely suspicious and cautious of any setting he is in due to previous neglect and negligence. However, I can report that he is SO cared for here. It is a relief to know he is treated as an individual, a human being! -and not just a let's do the minimum/keep him alive/tick the box 'service user'. His wishes are respected, and the staff converse with him all the time about what he'd like to do that day despite him being very difficult to understand. But additionally, they will do their utmost best to make sure what he wants to do happens. Even canoeing!! The manager sends me photos almost every day of his activities. A lot of care homes start off like this, and never keep it up because the activities stop and the care provided becomes a minimum. Not at Bidna. This guy has been to more festivals this summer than I have in my 20s. He goes to a farm a couple of days a week. There's socials and discos. There's no way I could provide him with all of these outings, clubs and opportunities. He fully has a better social life than me. Previously he's been in a setting where the staff didn't even answer the phone. Ever. At Bidna he can call me whenever he wants. Staff always answer the phone 24 / 7. I even impromptu get video calls. When you arrive to visit a staff member will always come out to greet you. I have doorstepped them a few times and my family member has always been well dressed, clean and in very good spirits. The manager Hayley really is so invested in the residents living their happiest fullest lives. She was the first person in 15 years who really listened to us both when we talked about care goals and what outcomes we'd like. The staff are all so friendly, polite and seem happy. A few I spoke to have been there a long time. No staff are outside having a smoke or on their personal phones which I have seen so many times in other settings. The facilities are lovely. The gardens are beautiful and residents are free to wander around them. There are also chickens, ducks, and I've seen a few cats and a dog. The house is spacious and my relative's room is always clean. Its near the local swimming pool and beaches. He's been on many many walks which he enjoys. If you are new or well versed in care home settings, rest assured that Bidna is a stable and SAFE place for your loved one where they will be respected, and cared for in so many ways. Edited to add: all these photos of my relative have been sent to me by staff across just a few weeks Edit June 2024 He's been here a year now. I have the same high level of contact from the manager and staff; regular photos and decision meets etc, and now he is taking surfing lessons. He's made absolutely unimaginable and wonderful progress. Glad to say he has put the 15kg he lost due to neglect at his previous setting back on with regular outings to his favourite Wetherspoons. Thank you Bidna House, your staff are really good people with kind hearts and endless patience, it's a dream team of staff who are completely meant to be in the roles they have.Posted on A SimmonsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Wonderful Team! My sibling was relocated to Bidna House after becoming very ill. They has been living there for almost 6 months and the progress she has made so far has been astounding! We as a family have struggled for years to fine a place that would suit our loved one whilst she is in recovery. After many placements we finally found Bidna House, and we are so glad we did. The Team at Bidna our without a doubt the most incredible care team we (and my sibling) could ask for. They offer top quality support and are dedicated to really helping the residents to live as independently and as autonomous as they can. Communication between family and care team is key in order to support a vulnerable loved one. Bidna have really focused hard on this to help us stay connected to our family member making sure we get regular updates and reassurance as and when needed. Visitation and day trips out are encouraged and have been easy to organise and plan with the help of the care team. They go above and beyond to make sure the residences stay active and engaged within their community i.e. day trips/drives, voluntary work, club nights, shopping and coffee trips. The place itself is set in a wonderful location and the house is well equipped - doubles bedrooms, clean bathrooms, games/living room, communal dining area, tv room, large (beautiful garden)... even chickens and a dog!Posted on Sarah CTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
